What is Alpha?
A dinner conversation about the Christian faith — and everything around it.
Alpha is a gathering where people share a meal and talk honestly about life, faith, and meaning. There's no beliefs you're expected to hold or perspective you’re expected to have.
“The best conversations happen over good food with interesting people who have different perspectives on the big questions in life, and no one is trying to win.”
🍽️
We eat first.
Every night starts with a real meal together because the best conversations and connections happen over food.
💬
We watch a short talk.
A short talk — usually 20–30 minutes — introduces the topic of the evening. No sermon, no propaganda. Just ideas to talk about.
🙋
You talk. We listen.
In groups, we discuss whatever comes up. Disagree, question, wonder out loud. There are no wrong answers here.
The Ground Rules
Say what you actually think.
Alpha works because of a simple agreement: nobody judges, nobody pushes, nobody pressures. Whatever you believe — or don't — you belong at this table.
🤝
No pressure
No one will call on you or pressure you to talk. You can sit, listen, eat, and say nothing the whole night if you want.
🚫
No judgement
Skeptical? Angry at religion? Haven't set foot in a church in years? That's fine. All of that is welcome here.
🔓
No agenda
We're not trying to convince you of anything. We're creating space to explore. If you never get interested in faith, you’re always invited back.
Here’s what to expect when you walk through the door.
Your first night
1
Meet new people
Alpha is made for people who are not sure about faith, but curious to find out more. Each session kicks off with some time to connect and eat together.
2
Watch a talk
Each talk is designed to spark conversation and unpacks a different question. The talks are designed to give an overview of the key beliefs of the Christian faith.
3
Talk it out
The most important part Alpha is the open conversation about the topics. You can share your thoughts and questions, or just listen. There’s no pressure to say anything or come to any conclusions – just a safe space for everyone’s unique perspective.

Questions about Alpha
-
No. Alpha is for anyone — curious, skeptical, exploring, or completely unsure. Alpha regularly hosts people who identify as agnostic, atheist, or just "not religious" and that’s exactly who this is for. If you've got questions or doubts, you'll fit right in.
-
Not at all. You can sit, eat, listen, and say absolutely nothing the entire evening — and you're welcome back any time. The conversations are open, not structured. Nobody asks you to share your story unless you want to.
-
Absolutely not. Alpha is hosted by Eden Church, which mostly means we pay for the food. The conversations are about the Christian faith, but we don’t sing, we don’t take an offering, and there isn’t a sermon. It's dinner and conversation. Our aim is an honest and more human way to explore these questions.
-
Of course — and honestly, it's better with a friend. Just have them register separately (or mention their name when you sign up) so we can plan dinner for everyone. Coming with someone you know makes the first night a lot easier.
-
Kids are more than welcome! They can eat with us and hang out. We don’t have dedicated childcare, but we have space set aside where we can all see them with activities for them. If you need to hold or feed your baby, that’s totally fine.
Just check the childcare box when you register so we know to expect your little ones.
